              Some of Norwalk
Hospital’s inspiring breast cancer survivors are featured on a
special calendar that is literally “hot off the press.” This
beautiful work of art shares the message of cancer survival and
celebration of life through photographs and narrative that
offers hope and optimism. The calendar is considered to be “a
                collector’s item”.

The women portrayed on the calendar joined together to show “The
Many Faces of Breast Cancer” and how they are surviving and
thriving. Breast cancer, as the calendar shows, affects women of
all ages and all nationalities. These remarkable women are an
inspiration to all of us. They are so willing to share their
message to help others with the same diagnosis. We are grateful
to them for having the courage to enlighten all of us.”

The calendars are on sale for $15 and all the proceeds benefit
The Smilow Family Breast Health Center at Norwalk Hospital.
Attentive and proactive care is the priority at The Smilow
Family Breast Health Center. The funds raised through the
calendar sales will help provide the highest quality services
                and programs for patients.
The calendar was the brainchild of award-winning photographer,
Alison Wachstein of Weston. She feels we should all give back to
the community and the calendar was one of her ideas to do so

These special edition calendars are available at Norwalk

              ALISON WACHSTEIN, M. Photog., CPP

Alison Wachstein graduated from Northwestern University with a BA
in Psychology. Her career began in photojournalism as staff
photographer for the Aspen Times in Colorado. After moving to New
Jersey she worked for Worrall Publications covering five
communities for four weekly newspapers. She opened up a
full-service studio photographing portraits, candids, PR and some
commercial work. She moved to Connecticut in 1980.

With the birth of her daughter she started
specializing solely in portraits of families and children. She
finds that her degree in psychology, her love of children and
photography, and her role as a parent have helped her immeasurably
in working with children and people of all ages. She is well known
for her sensitive portrayal of her subjects and her ability to
capture their fleeting expressions and special moments.

Mrs. Wachstein has been the recipient of many state, regional and
national awards as well as a Kodak Gallery Award and the EPCOT
award for her photographs. Her works have been displayed and
published internationally and she has taught photography at Seton
Hall, Fairleigh Dickinson and Fairfield Universities. She is
author/photographer of the book, Pregnant Moments published by
Morgan and Morgan formerly of Dobbs Ferry, NY. She is a certified
professional photographer (CPP) and received her Masters degree at
the PPA (Professional Photographers of America).

After the initial contact with her clients, a design conference is
scheduled where the photography session is planned. With careful
questioning, Alison listens to her clients and helps design the
perfect images for their homes. Settings, clothing, makeup, props,
and any special concerns are detailed. The photography session is
scheduled with the clients’ needs in mind and becomes a relaxed,
fun-filled adventure. The studio has been projecting the
selections from the photography session for over fifteen years now
(one of the first studios in the area to do so) and can
demonstrate how the portraits will look in every size from wallet
to wall portrait. Cropping, framing and retouching are discussed
in detail so the client will know exactly how their finished
              portraits will look.

While wall décor is the specialty of Alison Wachstein Photography,
desk portraits, albums, photo sculptures and commissioned oil
portraits are also available. A children’s club, many different
studio backgrounds, beautiful gardens, stream, woodlands, various
specials, and framing encourage many of her clients to return year
after year to create family treasures. She also photographs at the
beach, home, and other favorite locations.

Always on the cutting edge, Mrs. Wachstein brings the latest
advances in photography to her clients. She was one of the first
to offer digital technology to the region and continues to offer
the finest in photography in the area.
